Emily Gdula
Hi, I’m Emily Gdula (or, as my friends call me, Ems) from Japan. I’m currently in my first year of CADS and have decided to run for student member of the Programme Committee. I have a very mixed background and taste in music—my background stretches from Cardiff to Warsaw to Tokyo, and my music taste includes Bowie, Ethiopian Jazz, techno, and everything in between. As we are a highly international, small-scale, and opinionated class, I cannot overstate how important I feel it is for our programme to be not only a judgment-free zone but also a space where we feel comfortable raising concerns, no matter how trivial they may seem. I will work hard to represent all of us and act as the bridge between you and the institute, and I hope you trust me to fulfil this role. |

Emma Bulang
Dear first-year CADS students, We might already know each other from OWL week or lectures... But for those who haven’t met me yet, here’s a quick introduction! My name is Emma and I grew up in a German-American household in Dresden, then moved to Heidelberg. After high school, I took two gap years—volunteering on an organic farm in South India and working as a nurse back home to save up for my studies. Now I’m excited to be at Leiden University with all of you!
Let´s get to the point: I’m running for student-member 2024/25 because I want to help make our first year of CADS as smooth as possible. Let me be the person to lend an ear for any issues regarding the quality of education, be it untransparent grading or courses you´re having trouble following. Remember, communication is key! I’ll pass on any feedback to the Institute and Faculty Board in committee meetings. I´m non-judgemental and hope to make anyone who approaches me feel comfortable (this doesn´t include you Leo). Let me represent you so we can have the kind of first year we´re all hoping for! |

Wouter Bakhoven
Dear students, my name is a Dutch one, namely Wouter Bakhoven. I am eighteen years old, grew up in Voorburg, spread my roots out to the Hague during high school, and now feel thrilled to spend these coming years with you tackling the hardships of the unforgiving academic life. To make said sailings as swift as possible, I would like to contribute my efforts by being your student representative in the Programme Committee. Why me? Well, I hope to form a valuable committee voice by making use of my high school experience. There I served on the student council and was also chosen as student representative in a workgroup with menacing teachers that discussed plans for achieving quality education. A hard-working, reliable person is what my mother considers me, and furthermore I try to present myself as a most approachable person. So yes, I will gladly be your shoulder to cry on. Your vote might even make a tear appear in my own eyes, for it would be a true honour.
(if you are wondering why I am hugging a trash can: this is the container where we stashed the counted votes during the elections for the European Parliament... I thought it was fitting ok...)

Sofia Boscari
Hello everyone! I’m Sofia Boscari, I’m from Italy and I talk a lot! (For those who already know me: hello cuties!!)
As fellow CADS students we’re getting to learn complex social systems — and trust me, university bureaucracy is no different! I want to be a safe person you can go to and, like I did by creating the Whatsapp groupchat, I want to make sure we have safe spaces to express our opinions and concerns freely. I would make sure that all our late-night groupchat rants, concerns and issues are listened to and represent all of us on the Programme Committee! Whether it's making exams a bit less terrifying or just having longer coffee breaks, I’ll try my best.
Vote for me and I’ll make sure our programme will be as enjoyable as cycling to University when there’s no wind! Thank you and good luck to my fellow candidates! |
