Being the first person in your family to earn a university degree is a milestone to be celebrated. Join the POPcorner to hear from first-generation students about their experiences at the Faculty of Humanities and beyond! Come learn about secrets to their success, their motivation to excel, and lessons learned.
Date: Tuesday 22 February
Time: 17:00-18:00 hrs, followed by a moment to mingle
Location: Lipsius 2.27 (if covid measures allow it, otherwise it will be online)
At Leiden University, we use the term “first-generation” to refer to students who are first in their immediate family to attend university. The POPcorner seeks to engage and support students who self-identify as first-generation students. It does so by helping students to create supportive networks, establish personal and academic goals, get connected to university resources and services, and meet other first-generation students.
Panel first-generation students
Ebrar Kaya – BA Middle Eastern Studies
Janessa Vleghert – BA English Language and Culture (alumnus)
Bob van der Horst – MA English Language and Culture
Theresa Bell – BA Urban Studie
