About the Symposium
The universities of Leiden, Semmelweis, Birmingham, and Florence have come together for a EUniWell initiative. We will organize an online symposium ‘Good Practices on Student Well-being’ for the 30th September - 1st of October. This is an important topic that is especially of relevance in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The symposium will carry a well-being approach from different perspectives. We have planned to have two days of dialogue through panel discussions and break-out sessions. Break-out sessions will focus on the following themes:
  • Well-being as part of the curriculum;
  • Scientific research on student well-being;
  • Taking a student to student approach to support;
  • Tools and resources for support staff.
Symposium Aims
  • The EUniWell symposium aims to bring together students, support staff, and researchers in an online platform to allow for the exchange of knowledge on the topic of student’s well-being.
  • We also aim to establish a cooperative network to convey our achievements beyond the symposium and have long-lasting positive effects.
  • After the symposium we will present a best practices document on student well-being which will be shared with all EUniWell members.

Call for Proposal
Format
The break-out sessions will be of 1 hour and will be facilitated by a moderator. Each break-out session will include up to 3 speakers, where each speaker presents on their field of expertise or experience in max. 10 minutes. This will be followed by a Q&A or group dialogue in the remaining time.

Scope of work
Proposals should link to one of the following themes:
  • Well-being as part of the curriculum;
  • Scientific research on student well-being;
  • Taking a student to student approach to support;
  • Tools and resources for support staff.
We encourage speakers to meet with fellow panelists in advance of the symposium, to prepare for the session, discuss content and avoid overlap. About one month prior to the symposium you will be asked to submit a poster of your research/service/tools/etc., so that we can share it with the participants in advance.
Presentation guidelines
  • Speaking time: 10 min.
  • Slide format: Powerpoint
  • Encourage an interactive session environment: besides slides think about interactive tools such as Kahoot, Presenters Wall, short videos, etc.
  • Create an inclusive environment  which enables all delegates to feel valued and respected. Diversity in experiences and perspectives enriches dialogue and strengthens our learning.
  • Platform: online platform, designed for the symposium
  • We welcome proposals on scientific research, on personal experiences (particularly on students), on best practices (tools, courses, etc.), do’s and don'ts, etc.
Selection process
A selection committee, containing students representing the EUniWell member universities will review the session proposals. A scientific staff member will guide the selection committee in this process.

Eligibility

Students, scientists and university staff (within the EUniWell consortium) are invited to submit a proposal. Additionally preference goes out to expertise from not-for-profit organizations.
