Important information about mid-term registration
What is mid-term registration?
The only official start date for Bachelor’s programmes is 1 September.
The only official start dates for Master’s programmes are 1 September and (with written consent) 1 February.
Mid-term registration means that you wish to join the study programme on a date other than those mentioned
above.
Who is eligible for mid-term registration?
In principle, mid-term student registration is not permitted. However in exceptional circumstances the Executive
Board can grant permission for student registration to commence outside the regular start dates. Permission can
only be grated in demonstrable cases of educational circumstances beyond the control of the student, or
exceptional personal circumstances of a serious nature (see Leiden University’s Regulations for Student
Registration, Tuition Fees and Examination Fees).
I am eligible. What should I do?
If one of the above-mentioned exceptional circumstances applies to you, you can submit an official request for
mid-term registration by way of this form. Make sure to clearly explain the reason(s) for your request and provide
supporting materials (if applicable), for example written consent from the faculty or a medical statement.
Important: You must submit your formal online request, at the latest, by 20th of the month preceding
the month in which you wish to start studying. Incomplete requests will not be processed.
Example: if you want to be registered on the study programme as of 1 December, you must submit your formal
request by 20th November at the latest.
Late requests cannot be backdated.
